NATIONAL Volunteers Week, which begins today, is a time to reflect on the contributions of those that voluntarily give their time to assist the growth and success of the Mallee.
Whether it is helping young people learn new skills, providing meals on wheels, assisting with transport or attending school excursions and working bees, the community relies heavily on the generous support of volunteers.
Judy Hayes has been volunteering since her school days and still gets immense personal satisfaction from her volunteer work.
She currently volunteers one day per week at Alcheringa Aged Residential Care and travels the 40km from her home without reimbursement.
She works with the residents in areas such as craft, music, knitting and word puzzles.
“I think I get as much from it as I give,” Mrs Hayes said.
