Like father, like son

A FATHER and son will go head to head for the first time in a sanctioned event, with both out for the victory.

Swan Hill Kart Club’s Tim and Rob Bennett will take each other on in the Tag Restricted Heavy Class race, also part of the challenge against the visiting Goulburn Valley Kart Club racers.

With family pride on the line, Rob said he wanted to take it to his son and he wouldn’t hold back.

“I am extremely excited, I have been waiting for the day since I started up again last year,” he said.

“It will be interesting. We both had a run in Mildura (during a double class event where both divisions were on track at the same time) and he beat me in a way. I am out for a bit of revenge, I was a bit heavier then so hopefully this time I can get around him.”

Despite it not being an official result, with Tim in lights at the time, Rob still believes he has something to prove.

“At the end of the day, we are all competitors whether he is my son or not, and I won’t show him any favours,” laughed Rob.

“He has raced a lot more than I have in the last few years and his experience might pull up on the day.”

The race will be part of the interclub challenge and a big field is expected.

In the Bennetts’ race will be nine other competitors.

Taking part in his first race of the year, Tim said he was keen to get out on track with his old boy.

“I am very excited to race, it should be good,” he said.

“I have moved into dad’s class so I am racing heavy but it will be good … I can’t wait to go against him. We haven’t really had a muck around drive or anything yet so it will be interesting.

“If push came to shove I will do what it takes to win, it is good fun and I am glad I can do it with him.”

The 24-year-old took the sport up in 2012 when he attended a club event.
