Trucks targeted in blitz

POLICE, VicRoads and WorkSafe Victoria carried out a blitz on trucks and heavy vehicles on Swan Hill roads this week.

Some of the common faults targeted by the operation included steering and brake issues, worn or damaged tyres, broken lights, loose bolts and faulty seatbelts.

Midway through the operation, which began Tuesday and finished yesterday, several heavy vehicles had already been found to be unroadworthy.

“We have had 12 vehicles through here in three hours, and 11 of them have been defected,” VicRoads transport safety services team leader Shane Browning said on Wednesday morning.

VicRoads’ director of regulatory services Eric Henderson said the operation was an opportunity to educate owners and drivers about the benefits of proactive service schedules, and remove dangerous vehicles from the road.
