MINNIE Downs won her second consecutive Murray Downs Golf and Country Club Swan Hill Cup on Sunday afternoon in front of a 5000-strong crowd, but 2015’s main man was missing.
Jockey Jye McNeil piloted Minnie Downs to a win last year but an injury in Bendigo recently meant he lost his chance to win again in Swan Hill.
The horse he was riding dislodged him but his foot would get caught on the way down, breaking both his tibia and fibula in his ankle.
To go with the broken bones, he would also dislocate his ankle, meaning surgery was a must.
While he had to watch from home, McNeil said he was happy for apprentice jockey Mitchell Aitken who scored the win.
