MORE than 100 jobs will be created from the $15 million upgrade and expansion of the Swan Hill Abattoirs announced this week.
Mick Bird, operations manager at the Woodward Group which runs the site, said the expansion project would generate 30 jobs during construction and 75 new jobs over four years, and safeguard the abbatoirs’ 214 existing jobs.
He said the upgrades would lead to the development of new technologies to increase production and value-add at reduced operating costs, improving the business’ overall capacity for an expanded product profile for exports.
“It’s very exciting for the business and for the export plant — it will enable us to grow our export markets and get the plant at a level that will allow us to compete in tough export markets,” Mr Bird said.
