SAM’S Cruise for Awareness “absolutely went off” over the weekend, raising about $3200 for the children of Samantha Brooke who took her own life earlier this year.
After the tragedy hit close to home, Jackie Rowan, Paul and Jack Hulands came together and organised the cruise to help raise awareness of mental illness, and to help support Sam’s four children.
Paul Hulands said they originally started talking about the cruise the day after Sam took her life.
“The funds are going into a trust account for the children, Jack Hulands and myself are the trustees of the account,” he said. “If something comes up for their schooling or for their health we will use it then, but we hope to use it when the children are between the ages of 21 and 25 depending on the situation and what they need it for.”
Paul hoped to add to the account each year by doing things like selling rides in his speedway car, or selling apparel.
