SWAN Hill’s economy stands to lose as much as $1 million after the hosting duties for next year’s Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria state junior championships were moved to Tatura.
Swan Hill was set to host the championships — which draw about 1200 competitors — at the end of February 2017 but a recent decision saw the event moved away from the district.
The Guardian understands the venue change was due to other ongoing commitments from the Swan Hill CFA brigade.
Dennis O’Bryan from Big 4 Riverside and Big 4 Swan Hill said the move was detrimental both to his business and the town as a whole.
“We filled all the cabins at both of our Big 4 parks,” he said.”
