Relocated park would be safer

PLANS are underway to move the Swan Hill skate park to Riverside Park under expansion plans but Swan Hill Rural City Council could not confirm the project’s timeline.

The relocated park would form part of a play precinct also boasting a water feature and an upgraded playground.

The council’s director of development and planning Adam McSwain said the design was being completed after community consultation, but it did not mean it would be approved.

“There is no timeline, I wish we could say one but we will have to get the design done and go from there.

“We are aware the current skate park does not meet the expectations of young people and we will get a better outcome.”

BMX rider and action sport advocate Chris Barnes has called on the council to change the current skate park to align with modern day requirements.

“Now is the time to change and upgrade it and hopefully we can get people back (riding in the area),” he said.

“It takes a new park and it’ll boom again, like in Kerang.”
