THE Greens candidate for the seat of Mallee is still chasing 1.1 per cent of the vote but is happy with her efforts in doubling her party’s vote in the electorate.
Helen Healy received 6.9 per cent of the primary vote at the weekend’s election and said she was hoping to reach her goal of 8 per cent after the remaining 20,000 votes have been counted.
“I’m very pleased…I think the Greens are now considered a third major force in politics,” she said yesterday.
“I’ve even had some Nationals that voted for me, a prominent businessman voted for me.
“They want something different.”
Ms Healy said she would seek to further her political agenda by contesting the Mildura local government elections in October, running on a platform harnessing Greens ideals.
