A LOCAL builder is lucky to be alive after he sustained an electrical shock while working at a Swan Hill property.
The incident prompted Lindsay Rogers, a veteran electrical inspector with more than 26 years’ experience, to warn tradesmen of the potential dangers following a local builder reportedly receiving a 240 volt shock while working on a roof in Swan Hill.
Mr Rogers said a defective service clamp or dog bone cracked causing the metal rod inside to pierce the active conductor of the overhead aerial.
Lindsay Rogers, a qualified electrical inspector in Swan Hill with more than 26 years’ experience is urging tradesmen to take care via social media after this in turn, energised the service hook.
Power distributors are responsible for the service clamps but Mr Rogers warned that the state of many of the clamps across the Mallee were in serious need of replacement.
Mr Rogers said the only response he had received from power distributors was that they were being replaced as workman attended to other issues at a site.
However, Mr Rogers said the builder was extremely lucky to be alive.
