TWO people are lucky to be alive after they escaped their burning Swan Hill unit with nothing more than the clothes on their back on Friday.
Firefighters were called to the Murlong Street address, near Rutherford Street, shortly before noon to find the single-storey brick residence at the rear of another unit fully engulfed in flames.
Swan Hill Fire Brigade captain Dennis Turner said two occupants were home at the time.
“One was asleep as smoke took hold, so they are very lucky to have escaped,” he said.
A male was transported to Swan Hill District Health with minor injuries to his lower body, according to Ambulance Victoria spokesperson Erin Marie.
