Mallee take on Kerang

MALLEE Eagles will be aiming to take it to the Kerang Blues with both sides desperate to score a win.

The Blues — who have registered just one win this year — are in a rebuilding phase, while the Mallee Eagles — who have won two matches this season so far — are struggling to put four quarters of netball together.

While it may be ninth versus last place, the match is still important for both clubs to build morale ahead of their 2017 campaigns.

Kerang coach Bianca Wise said her side was just hoping to all get back on court in an attempt to snap their losing streak.

“I think this will be a tough game, we are hoping we will have our full side and give it a good crack,” she said.

“Every week our team is different, so we don’t have a set team each week…it is hard but we are giving the young girls a crack to go out, play the game and enjoy it.

“It is more of a development year for us and it has been a tough season. We need to try and stay strong for the four quarters and not give up, hold strong in defence and defend hard, especially on turnovers.”

In round 3 the Mallee Eagles thumped Kerang 70 to 36 in Kerang, beating Balranald the week before to score a two-game winning streak.

In round 6, the Mallee Eagles drew with Koondrook Barham, while Kerang was able to defeat Balranald 36 to 33 in round 9.

When asked who was standing up for the Lalbert club, Mallee Eagles coach Noni Domaille said it was the midcourt and defensive ends.

“Our midcourt has been playing quite well and our goal keeper Kyra Bennett has been standing up for us every single week,” she told The Guardian.

“We have a good shot at winning this one and it would give the girls a boost to try and sneak a few more wins. We have a very young side but I am just looking forward to a good match and hopefully coming away with the win.

“Each game is important and we need to get a win on the board. We need to play consistently through four quarters, it has really let us down and we need to focus on that first quarter. We aren’t getting off to good starts and then we need to keep fighting back.”
