SWAN Hill resident Lisa Leigh believes improved paediatric services are desperately needed within rural townships.
The mother of two knows only too well the struggles associated with having a sick child.
Her seven-month-old son Lachlan has required ongoing care since birth.
This has resulted in endless hospital admissions, lengthy waiting lists, lots of travel and out of pocket expenses, with little compensation.
“My youngest has been really sick,” Ms Leigh said.
“Swan Hill can’t even deal with him, and he is under the head of paediatrics in Bendigo.”
Ms Leigh believes any rural hospital that has the capacity to deliver babies should also have access to a paediatrician who can provide specialised ongoing medical care for infants, children and adolescents.
