A new chapter in the 50-year history of Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement was written at the weekend when the living history museum took out the silver award in the cultural tourism category at the 2016 Regional Tourism Awards in Echuca.
The awards are held annually to acknowledge excellent in tourism in the four regional tourism areas of central, inland, Murray and Riverina.
“The Pioneer Settlement has been here for just over 50 years and allows the opportunity now, as we go through redevelopment to rejuvenate the settlement, to get back in the cultural sector and share what we have in Swan Hill,” general manager Tony Jenkins said.
“We were up against some good competition in the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre, but now the focus is about what we do here both day and night and by the river.
“We went for gold, but being our first year up and running we didn’t expect that.”
