Weir continues toward 350 wins

DARREN Weir added yet another win to his 2015-16 season tally when Firenze crossed first on Monday in Swan Hill.

Storming home in the 2105m race, Weir’s 341st winner took out his second win in three races under the guidance of jockey Dean Yendell — Victoria’s number one country jockey.

Firenze won the 1800m race at Casterton on July 3 in the pair’s first ride.

Local jockey Harry Coffey was unable to win a race on the day, featuring in eight races in his hometown.

On two of Weir’s horses, Coffey claimed second in his run with Carven Image in a 1205m race before finishing as bridesmaid on Du Sumpent in a 980m gallop.

While he wasn’t able to secure a win, the apprentice jockey is still in good form as he nears the end of his trade.

Trainer Austy Coffey took out third place on three-year-old gelding Saturday, not finding much luck elsewhere.

Swan Hill’s Con Kelly couldn’t find a winner on Monday, with two fourth place results his best finishes of the day in his home event.
