Swan Hill Rural City Council and Coles Express will look for another location for a proposed new service station after plans to build it on the corner of Beveridge and McCallum Streets were scuttled.
The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) this week overturned the council’s decision to grant a planning permit.
Jessie Kiley, one of the councillors who voted in favour of granting the permit, had feared ratepayers would be forced to foot the bill for a VCAT challenge if the council rejected it.
But the matter went to the tribunal anyway, with the council’s decision overturned on planning grounds.
