The region’s police have called for a whole community approach to help drug addicts break their habit cycle, saying the ice scourge is more than just a criminal matter.
It comes after a recovering ice addict, Shannon Ellis, made calls last week for a drug rehabilitation and detoxification facility to be set up in Swan Hill.
“Swan Hill, like all other country communities, is not immune from the issues associated with illicit drugs and doesn’t just include the drug ice,” Swan Hill police Inspector Dan Davison said.
“This is not just a policing matter; we want to see support to help addicts break their cycle.”
Ms Ellis, who is recovering from a 10-year methamphetamine addiction, told The Guardian last week that there was not enough support available to help people in the district recover from addictions to illicit drugs.
