Swan Hill Rural City Council has objected to Murray River Council’s proposed amendment to the its local environment plan that would progress the implementation of option 9A for a new Swan Hill bridge.
At the April 2014 council meeting, the Swan Hill council resolved to endorse option 4B or a 4B variation as its preferred option, which would comprise a high and intermediate level “flyover” bridge further downstream of the current bridge, entering the Murray Valley Highway near Pye Street.
But Murray River Council’s proposed amendment to the Wakool Local Environment Plan 2013 would put in place land acquisition overlay for the 9A bridge option.
Option 9A, where a lift-span bridge is to be built about 100 metres upstream of the existing bridge and would cut through Riverside Park at Curlewis Street, has also been endorsed by VicRoads and NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS).
