A Koraleigh man has been charged with firearms offences after police seized more than 300 weapons and gun parts across the region last week.
Police said the haul has cracked down on an alleged international syndicate importing weapons from the United States.
The joint federal, state and international operation was sparked 15 months ago when a military-style assault rifle was used in an armed robbery at a fast-food outlet in Melbourne’s western suburbs.
Victoria Police assistant commissioner Stephen Fontana said that sparked a bigger investigation which successfully prevented a large consignment of weapons entering the country.
In June, US officials intercepted a consignment consisting of six fully automatic assault rifles and 96 semi-automatic handgun frames, allegedly in the process of being exported to Australia.
