A FOOTBALLER who suffered a serious concussion in a Central Murray league match three years ago is pleading for sporting bodies to take notice of the dangers of head injuries.
After losing almost three years of his life to a debilitating hit, Lake Boga’s Josh Gadsden — who made his return to the field against Swan Hill last month after being sidelined since round 1 in 2013 — says there are growing concerns for player welfare in both the Central Murray and Golden Rivers leagues.
As research about the horrors of repetitive knocks to the head grows, the CMFNL and GRFL still do not have official policies in place, leaving the onus on club trainers.
This trend, a common theme throughout grassroots sport in Australia, is leaving everyone vulnerable, according to Mr Gadsden, who is desperate to raise awareness about the impact of head injuries in the game.
