A new Victorian parliamentary inquiry into regional fuel prices will attempt to get to the bottom of the “inconsistent” prices, state Nationals leader Peter Walsh says.
The Coalition-led inquiry will look at the impact on communities and will be conducted by the Victorian Parliament’s Law Reform, Road and Community Safety Committee.
But, the state’s leading transport advocate, RACV, said there had been “countless” similar fuel price inquiries that had “little effect”.
“RACV supports action to reduce the cost of motoring for our regional members but there must be real outcomes from such an inquiry,” public policy manager Brian Negus said.
The Opposition submitted proposed terms of reference to Parliament last week, however the matter was not debated before the sitting ended on Wednesday night.
It’s now expected to be debated in the upper house when it sits again next week.
