There is more than just a brush of excitement at the Chisholm Park drag strip after a Swan Hill painting retailer jumped on board as a sponsor of the new $2.4 million project.
Hammonds Paint has secured the starting bunker at the quarter-mile strip, which will be officially opened at the Swan Hill Drag Racing Club’s inaugural meet on October 8 and 9.
The drag strip features the longest concrete racing surface in Australia, constructed thanks to a $2 million contribution from the Victorian Government, $450,000 from Swan Hill Rural City Council and $220,000 of in-kind from the Swan Hill Drag Racing Club.
The response to the first race has been described as “overwhelming” by the club’s secretary, Alan Ward.
“We will have more than 160 drag cars at the reserve and hopefully a sea of Swan Hill locals and visitors lining up to check out all the action,” he said.
