For half a century, the Swan Hill Visitor and Community Comfort Centre has provided people in town with care and convenience.
Celebrations of the milestone are being overseen by Beryl Lowe, who has been the centre’s chairperson for 18 years and a volunteer there for 21 years.
“All the things we provide at the centre are for the public,” Ms Lowe said.
“It’s a great thing for the community to have, we’re very proud of it.”
The centre was started in 1952 by a group of women known as the Australian Labor Party Ladies.
It’s estimated that the centre services about 60 people a week from all walks of life.
Currently, there are eight volunteers who oversee the centre on a rotated roster.
Although the Swan Hill Rural City Council helps fund the facility through occasional grants, volunteers donate their time out of the kindness of their own hearts and buy supplies out of their own money.
