The Swan Hill region gathered yesterday to pay tribute to police officers who have died in the line of duty.
Since 1853, when Victoria Police was established, 159 officers have paid the ultimate price serving their community.
More than 50 people joined Victoria Police, New South Wales Police, Swan Hill Rural City Council representatives and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh at the Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement church for National Police Remembrance Day.
The day coincides with Blue Ribbon Day, held each year on September 29.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation raises money for improved emergency facilities named in memory of fallen officers.
Swan Hill local area commander Inspector Dan Davison said there is “nothing more important or treasured than National Police Remembrance Day”.
“This service is our opportunity to stand together, to pause and remember fallen police men and women who have died while serving their community,” Insp Davison said.
