Downtown performance

JEANETTE Young’s expressive arts group are busily preparing for their annual performance and according to Ms Young it is a complete step away from last year’s show.

Ms Young started the expressive arts group last year to give adults with disability the chance to showcase their ability and experience being on stage.

The first performance last year drew huge acclaim from community.

“We were just blown away by the community’s response last year,” she said.

“The reception and feedback far exceeded our expectations.”

The group make all decisions about the production including aspects such as script writing, song choices, choreography, set design and costumes.

This year they have decided to give the production a local feel.

“We have a whole new concept this year,” Ms Young said.

“The theme showcases all the activities and aspects that make Swan Hill special.

“Our performance is called Downtown in our Town and it is based on a TV variety show.

“We have more than 20 performers taking part and they will showcase their ability in singing and dancing.”

The performers range in age from 18 – 60 and are matched with roles that highlight their abilities.

“Some sing, some dance and some do everything,” Ms Young said.
