O’Sullivan finally sworn in

New Victorian Nationals MP Luke O’Sullivan has been sworn into the upper house after being sidelined for almost two months in a tit-for-tat political dispute.

The joint sitting was held on Wednesday after the government’s hand was forced by the resignation of federal senator Stephen Conroy, whose replacement also had to be approved by both houses of the Victorian Parliament.

Mr O’Sullivan was chosen to replace Damian Drum, who quit Victorian politics to successfully run for the federal seat of Murray at the July election.

But the State Government blocked the MP-elect from taking his upper house seat in retaliation for Special Minister of State Gavin Jennings’ six-month suspension for refusing to table sensitive documents.
