Four new faces will represent the Swan Hill municipality after the new council was declared at the Swan Hill Town Hall on Wednesday.
In front of more than 30 family, friends, unsuccessful candidates and council officers, council’s seven new councillors-elect thanked their supporters for their trust and vote during the local government elections.
Most recent mayor and police officer Les McPhee (1186 first preference votes) was swept into Lakes Ward.
Murray-Mallee Ward incumbent Gary Norton (839 after distribution) was re-elected after distribution of preferences against challenger Gregg Cook.
CFA employee Chris Jeffery (1140), fruit grower Ann Young (931), community leader Lea Johnson (913) and farmer Bill Moar (850) were elected to Central Ward.
Meanwhile, John Katis returned unopposed as Robinvale Ward councillor.
“It’s very nice to see you ladies coming into local politics,” Cr-elect Katis said.
“I would like to say thanks to my community for having faith in me to be uncontested in this council election.”
Cr-elect McPhee said it was an exciting time moving forward.
“We have four new councillors on board, which is terrific for change,” he said.
