Ready to take control

SWAN Hill has taken a commanding lead over defending premiers Nyah District with opening batsman Mark Thomson leading the charge in the Swan Hill and District Cricket Association (SHDCA).

On day one of their round 4 clash, the away side’s first man in managed 110 runs with the bat in hand — more than half of his side’s total of 209 — hitting seven boundaries.

The long knock was enough to get his side the lead with no other Swan Hill player finding more than 21 runs in total.

The bowling line up of the Demons had to work hard to get the wicket of Thomson, with the fall finally coming after 202 balls faced at the end of the day.

Swan Hill’s Kobe Lloyd took the wicket late in the day but it may not have been enough to salvage something from the match.

With time for six overs left in the day, the Nyah District side found themselves in trouble from the outset.

Opening batsman Andrew Robertson was gone for a duck while Shane Fleming had only hit two runs in the end of day stanza.

After three extras, Nyah District would finish 1-5 with a lot of work to do next weekend.

A century to Corey Daniels has allowed St Mary’s Tyntynder to put Woorinen under immense pressure going into day two on Saturday.

The 104-run knock from number three set up a sensational day for the side, ending their 80 overs with 8-275.

Wickets were hard to come by for the Tigers, with opening batsman Austin McKerrow (53) and Connor Power (40) getting their side off to an absolute flyer.

From then on the middle order would serve as anchors for the unbeaten Daniels who continued to amass runs through the day.

Woorinen’s Glenn Violi was relentless in his attack, taking two wickets from his 24 overs.

He also bowled a match-high five maidens and took the wicket of McKerrow after St Mary’s Tyntynder had just passed more than 100 runs for the match.

Ultima TUF are doing it tough against RSL, with the latter already well ahead.

After just 54.5 overs, the RooDogs were all gone for just 86 runs.

Coming into the middle, the RSL side looked confident and fresh, as coach Stuart Patterson belted out 70 runs before the end of the day.

Second batsman in, Tom McGregor would find himself 22 runs before a leg before wicket decision had him walking back to the sheds.

RSL have set themselves up for a dominant outright win heading into day two on Saturday.

In B Grade, RSL climbed to a total of 3-359 in their one-day clash against Balranald.

The New South Wales club finished with 8-47 before B Shepherd hit 156 not out for the RSL club, easily getting win.
