Balranald Shire Council has been forced to show improvements in its financial performance for what NSW Government believes is poor governance and a lack of financial stability.
The council said yesterday a fully-funded plan had been completed after NSW Local Government Minister Paul Toole ordered it to show improvement while he decided whether to appoint a temporary adviser so “identification of the impediments (can be) revealed”.
“Balranald Shire Council has been given 14 days notice to respond to the notice of intention to issue a performance improvement order before a final decision to issue the order is made,” a spokeswoman for Mr Toole said.
The Office of Local Government prepared a report on financial and governance failings at the council after a review of its practices and a visit on July 19.
A notice of intention was emailed to general manager Aaron Drenovski on November 8.
