VCE wait is over

At 7am this morning, thousands of VCE students across the state were finally able to access their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) score.

Speaking to The Guardian yesterday before the results were released, Swan Hill College students Tylah McGregor and Shenali Jayaweera had mixed feelings about their impending ATAR results.

“If I get about 60, I will be ecstatic,” Miss McGregor said.

“I really want to get into psychology at Ballarat but if I got into Bendigo that would be great too.”

Miss Jayaweera said she was aiming for about 85 “at least”.

“I’m second guessing myself at the moment whether I’ve done enough to get that score,” she said.

“Bachelor of Science at either Melbourne University or Monash is really want I want to get into.

“I’m just nervous about getting the results.”

Miss Jayaweera said that a few students at Swan Hill College knew their results early by receiving a premature text message.

“I know of at least three people who received early results,” she said.

“They were actually pretty happy about knowing before anyone else, just a little surprised. They thought it was a hoax at first.”

The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) has apologised for the glitch that saw around 2000 students receive their VCE results early last week,

VTAC director of Communications and publishing services Suzanne Connelly said “we know it may not seem fair for a small portion of students to have their results before others, but the infrastructure and support networks required to support the full VCE cohort will not be fully available until the scheduled release at 7am Monday December 12”.

Students now have up until noon on Tuesday, December 20, to change their preferences if they wish to do so.
