Police and community members hold serious concerns after seven firearms were stolen from a property in Barham last weekend.
Deniliquin Police Inspector Jy Brown said four bolt action rifles, two 12 gauge shot guns and an air rifle were stolen from the property between Friday, December 9 and 10pm on Sunday, December 11.
Insp Brown said it was hard to assume until there were solid leads into the incident but said it was a concern for the community.
“It is of a concerning nature that seven firearms have been unaccounted, which could therefore be used in serious offending,” he said.
“Legislation requires firearms to be stored securely if not being used.
“The firearms legislation sets out your responsibilities as a firearms owner in relation to safe storage. Different categories of licence requires different levels of safe storage.”
