No holiday from caring

It is crucial that the work of Community Care in supporting Swan Hill residents in need of assistance continues over the holidays.

Community Care co-ordinator Darren Ingham says their services allow people to live at home for as long as possible.

“Around 1000 residents in the region benefit from our services over a 12-month period,” he said.

“Our main services are Personal Care and Meals on Wheels, which both continued over the Christmas break. These are services that people rely on every day.”

Mr Ingham said it was crucial that the Meals on Wheels and Personal Care services continued over the holidays.

“Half of our staff offered to work over the break to continue providing these services to people in town,” he said.

“I just want to take a chance to thank all our volunteers and to everyone who helps us provide these services.”

“In addition to these services, during hot weather we also check up on our most vulnerable clients to see how they’re coping in the heat.”

Swan Hill resident Betty Campbell has been a beneficiary of the Meals on Wheels service from Community Care for four years.

“I’m very happy to have them,” she said.

“I’m not the best cook and the meals are always tasty and nutritious.”
