The Swan Hill Model Aero Club will fly in the same airspace but its members will gather on a new patch of land at Blackwire Reserve.
It’s hoped the club’s move from their current site on the reserve to an adjacent one, off the Sea Lake-Swan Hill Road, to make way for a solar farm will see the club leap to new heights.
“At the end of the day, we have known about this relocation for about five years,” club president Scott Ellis told The Guardian.
“We held several meetings with council during that time and it was inevitable.
“It has happened all of a sudden but now it’s about making it work for us.”
The club will receive $30,000 from Swan Hill Rural City Council to move from Lot 1 to Lot 2.
“The site for the solar farm (currently occupied by the model aero club) is ideally located next to a sub-station which allows for the electricity that is generated to be fed back into the grid,” director development and planning Adam McSwain told council last week.
