EXPRESSIONS of interest are now open for membership on a new advisory body to help Swan Hill’s Koori community in developing the services delivered by Mallee District Aboriginal Services (MDAS).
The body’s objective is to increase opportunities for the Swan Hill community to have a say on the MDAS’s future direction and services.
MDAS staff members Michelle Gadsby and Jody Croft have driven the establishment of the new committee for six months.
Ms Gadsby said the advisory committee would be successful only if it was a true partnership between the MDAS and the community.
“The committee is going to be a partnership to be built on goodwill, equality, honesty, transparency and respect but to work, it must have active participation and commitment from all members,” Ms Gadsby said.
“We’re still receiving expressions of interest until Thursday. So far, we have been quite pleased with the response.”
Ms Croft said the role of the committee would be to provide support, guidance, recommendations and advice on the services and programs that the MDAS delivered.
“The role of MDAS is to fairly consider those recommendations and advice from the committee in good faith,” she said.
Aboriginal people over 18 years old are invited to put in expressions of interest to join the advisory board.
Candidates must be passionate about improving the delivery of services to the Swan Hill community.
Applications close on January 19.
