Booth named to coach women’s side

WOMEN’S soccer in the region has been given a boost after the announcement of a new head coach.

Experienced goal keeper Rachael Booth will take the reins of the Swan Hill Soccer League women’s side ahead of the 2017 season to help them develop the sport further in the Mallee.

Having coached for various junior clubs before, the playing-coach will take over from Sue Fox who coached the side in their inaugural season in the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League.

Speaking to The Guardian, the new coach said she wanted to develop the team in more ways than one.

“The best thing about coaching is watching the girls develop, not just as a team but as people as well,” she said.

“I think we have a good canvas to work with, the players are always improving… and we can work with it. A lot of the girls played futsal over the summer too.

“I really enjoy the camaraderie you get out of coaching. Swan Hill is an awesome club and it is very team orientated.”
