Generosity is a life saver

A steady flow of Swan Hill residents have rolled up their sleeves for a visit by the Australian Red Cross Blood Service’s mobile donor centre.

The public came out in droves to give blood, as appointment times booked out fast.

Swan Hill local Rebecca Sinclair said she had given blood 27 times during her lifetime.

“I come every three months to donate,” she said.

“There are plenty of people who need it and more people should donate. It costs nothing to donate, so everyone should do it.”

Sara Alexander is another a regular local blood donor, with six donations under her belt.

“I donate blood because I always think ‘what if one of my kids or myself needed a donation’,” she said.

“More people should find out if they are eligible to give blood then actually book an appointment to do it.”

Australian Red Cross Blood Service community relations officer Wendy Todd said Swan Hill donors were “generous”.

“We’ve been in Swan Hill since Monday (January 16) and will be collecting blood donations until Tuesday (tomorrow),” she said.

“During this time we hope to collect over 300 donations.”

The mobile blood donor centre will be in Swan Hill until tomorrow and will return to Swan Hill in May.

If you would like to secure an appointment to make a blood donation, call 13 14 95.
