Holidaymakers have flocked to Swan Hill in record numbers and this Australia Day was no exception.
One of the town’s most popular holiday spots is the Big4 Riverside, on the banks of the Murray.
Big4 Riverside manager Dan O’Bryan said the park had been “been really busy over the summer”.
“We were 100 per cent full over the first few weeks of the holidays and over Christmas,” he said.
“Over the Australia Day weekend we will probably have around 75 per cent of the park full.
“People mainly come up from Melbourne, Ballarat and Geelong. We also get quite a few people coming from Adelaide.”
Mr O’Bryan said he thought Swan Hill appealed to holidaymakers because of its natural beauty and local attractions.
“The river is always a big drawcard for people,” he said.
“Fishing is so big here especially because we back right on to the river. The campsites along the river let people sit under their awning and fish from there.
“Attractions in town like the Pioneer Settlement are also really popular with our campers.
“Some people make it a tradition and come up every year to the park. There are people who have been coming for 30 years.”
Mr O’Bryan said people stayed at the park for two weeks on average.
Mildura holidaymakers Peter and Sam Norton have stayed at the park over the summer for two years to join their son and his family.
“It’s so beautiful here and the river is just magical,” Sam said.]
