Body found at Nyah West

POLICE are appealing to the public for assistance after a man’s body was found on Nyah West Road yesterday at about 4.30am.

A passer-by discovered the body, near the intersection with Maton Lane, where police believe he was run over by an unknown vehicle.

Victoria Police Major Collision Investigation Unit Detective Sergeant Mark Amos told The Guardian a Polynesian man was struck by a vehicle between the hours of 2.30am and 4.30am along Nyah West Road.

“We are investigating if he was laying or standing on his feet. We have yet to confirm,” he said.

“He has come into contact with a vehicle and unfortunately suffered some serious injuries and died on the road.

“We have no indication of the type of vehicle but in any event, it is sufficient to have caused some really serious trauma.

“There was nothing to indicate braking prior to the impact. There are a number of things you can take from that; however, our big thing at the moment is we want to hear from anyone who could have been in the area at the time.”

Mr Amos also said it was a timely reminder for drivers to check if they think they may have struck something on the roads.

The man had not been identified at time of printing but police are keen to speak to anyone who may have information and would like to speak to any person who was driving, or seen, in the area at the time.

A road closure was set up on Nyah West Road, at both the Kinghorn Lane and Murray Valley Highway intersections, with police and ambulance crews on the scene.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
