This year’s inaugural Murray River Council Citizen of the Year was encouraged by her late parents to “have a go, meet new people and seek new challenges”.
Lois Lockhart has been recognised for her “outstanding contribution to various committees, groups and bodies” within the Greater Wakool area with the highest local Australia Day award.
Mrs Lockhart served on Wakool Shire Council from 2008 to 2016 before the municipality was merged with neighbouring Murray Shire Council in May last year.
The veteran councillor was then appointed onto the local representative committee, which is providing input to the council’s operational plans until a council is elected in September.
“She is a much respected identity within the Tooleybuc and Goodnight communities and has been an active community representative on a number of projects,” her citation read.
Ms Lockhart said she was “thrilled” to be the recipient.
