SWAN Hill Lady Flyers have been eliminated.
The improved Flyers couldn’t find a way to beat Wodonga Wolves on Sunday, as they crashed to a 84-55 loss in Wodonga.
The Flyers found it tough going from the start after Wodonga’s Amy Mcintosh dropped a three-pointer to open the scoring.
Mollie Quin returns serve with a field goal before Zoe Fuller found two quick buckets to put Swan Hill up 8-3 early in the piece.
The quick start continued when Madeleine Jeans found her first points of the night with the Wolves calling a timeout down 10-3.
Whatever was said in the team huddle worked as the home side rallied with yet another immediate three-point shot sinking from Tenille Collins.
From this point, the match was closely fought but the Wolves began to claw their way back into the side, foul by foul.
By the end of the first, the Flyers were up 15-13.
The second quarter was tough but Swan Hill wouldn’t let their lead go without a fight.
At the midway point, the Flyers found themselves behind 20-18 after a field goal from Mcintosh, which marked the start of the end for the Flyers.
Wodonga began to make almost every possession count and began to put their points on the board.
As the clock wound down, the home side would lead on the board 37-26 at halftime. The second half was all academic for the Wolves who just continued to add to the lead.
The Flyers weren’t able to stay as consistent as their opponents, putting pressure on themselves.
While the match was a tough battle for both, the Flyers weren’t experienced enough to get past an opponent like Wondonga on the day.
The squad was led by Laura Anderson, with 12 points, on the scoreboard, while Zoe Fuller toiled away for 11 points under the basket without Jenna Jenkins or Zoe Spence-Benfield.
The Wolves fouled 22 times – the Flyers converted 50 per cent of their free chances _ while Wodonga were given 22 trips for 18 points.
Wodonga will now play Bendigo on Sunday in the grand final.
