Daniels steers Dogs home

Close to a century and a half knock from St Mary’s Tyntynder’s Corey Daniels guided the Bulldogs to an emphatic A Grade win over cross-town rivals Swan Hill in round 11 of the Swan Hill and District Cricket Association competition.

After they had dismissed Swan Hill for 100 off just 44 overs (more than half their allotted overs on the day) last Saturday in the two-day game, St Mary’s Tyntynder almost exhausted all their overs on Saturday in scoring 370.

Walking the walk, captain Daniels scored 145 runs with 15 fours and three sixes, almost half of his side’s score, after 78.5 overs.

Swan Hill’s Bradley Cockfield took four wickets for 26 runs while Mark Thomson (3-68) and Arnold Kirby (3-52) also showed resolve against a tough opponent.

Meanwhile, a low-scoring affair came to an end at Alan Garden Reserve on Saturday when Woorinen narrowly defeated Ultima TUF by five runs.

After Woorinen was dismissed for 119 from 46.2 overs, Ultima TUF didn’t make much of an impression on their own scoreboard, making 114 runs from 56.2 overs.

It was an all-round performance from Woorinen in the attack, with two wickets falling to Gurmander Singh, Glenn Violi, Dilbag Singh and Stefan Mangiameli.

In the other A Grade two-day clash, Nyah District defeated RSL at Tooleybuc Reserve by three wickets.

RSL batted first, scoring 164 runs from 74 overs, thanks to Tom McGregor (64) and Ben Shepherd (51).

Nyah District managed to salvage the likely victory when they scored 7-165 after 68 overs.

Patrick Caldwell was the best with the ball for RSL; he took 2-20 with 13 maidens from 24 overs.

In B Grade, Ultima TUF defeated Swan Hill in the one-day round 13 clash on Saturday.

Swan Hill scored 7-119 after all 40 allotted overs were bowled before Ultima TUF made 5-121 after just 27.5 overs, with middle-order batsman Kaine O’Connell scoring 56 not out.

Tooleybuc-Manangatang defeated RSL at Gurnett Oval by one wicket.

Batting first after winning the toss, RSL scored 114 (35.3 overs) after the lower order collapsed, with Ben Arentz taking 4-6 from eight overs, before a spread of runs helped the away side score 9-115 (30.5 overs).
