Four Swan Hill students have booked their spots on a study tour to reflect upon the spirit of Australian veterans after winning an annual state government contest.
Daniel Hughes and Scott Smith from Swan Hill College and Charli Meney from St Mary McKillop College were named state finalists in this year’s Premier’s Spirit of Anzac Prize (SOAP). Cinaya Vargas was named regional finalist.
Students received their awards from Geelong MP Christine Couzens in Melbourne on Monday.
“I’m really excited about travelling overseas because it will be my first time,” Charli told The Guardian.
“But more so it will be an amazing experience to see firsthand the spirit of the Australian war story.
“My history teacher really wanted me to have a go at the essay contest.”
