Lalbert cracks it

MALLEE Eagles officials have taken aim at the Gannawarra Shire Council after a “substandard upgrade” of the netball courts led to “more than 40 cracks” across the surface.

The club have officially closed the courts for the safety of players.

Mallee Eagles Football Netball Club chairman Geoff Kendall said $65,000 was spent to resurface the courts.

He said they were “in a quandary about what to do next”.

“The club voiced its disapproval with the initially selected contractor. Since the job was completed in March 2015, we have seen the courts crack open within three weeks (sic).

“The club have made a conscious decision to close the courts for the safety of our netballers,” Mr Kendall said.

A council spokesperson confirmed the club sought to have the courts upgraded in April 2014 by lodging a Country Football Netball Program funding application — a process which can only be conducted through council.
