Swan Hill sweltered during its hottest day in eight years, with the mercury hitting 46 degrees last Thursday.
The uncomfortable conditions made it the hottest day since Black Saturday on February 7, 2009 and equal third hottest since records began.
Swan Hill recorded 46.9 degrees on that day, when fierce bushfires killed 173 Victorians.
The second hottest temperature since records began at the Swan Hill Aerodrome weather station in 1996 was 46.2 degrees on January 14, 2001.

Last Thursday’s maximum arrived at 4.45pm before the temperature dropped 10 degrees by 9pm.
The temperature remained in the mid 20s into Friday morning before the mercury climbed to 45.6 degrees by 4pm.
Across the Mallee, Walpeup recorded a high temperature of 46.9 degrees at 4.17pm and Mildura sizzles in 46.3 degrees.
