Encouraging anaphylaxis awareness

A Lake Boga parent has urged children and parents to be conscious of people with peanut allergies and anaphylaxis during a video presentation last week.

Karla Partington’s son Chippa, 7, is allergic to a number of foods and is also anaphylactic to peanuts.

Lake Boga is an anaphylactic friendly school, rather than a nut free school.

“So through that we educate teachers, students and parents because we believe anaphylaxis is a whole community responsibility to maintain the safety of children while Chippa’s at school,” Mrs Partington said.

According to the Royal Children’s Hospital, anaphylaxis is the most severe form of an allergic reaction and is life threatening.

Symptoms include difficulty with breathing, swelling of the tongue and throat.

“There is so much controversy regarding schools going nut free,” Mrs Partington said.
