Our region’s quirkiest race, the Balranald Billy Goat Cup, will be held once again this Saturday.
Now in its third year, the event is organised by the Balranald Football Netball Club (BFNC).
The race has had a strong following in the past, and last year attracted around 300 spectators.
One hundred goats will compete in 10 separate heats, with the winners of each heat to contest the Billy Goat Cup.
Event organiser Tony Conway said the club had a very unusual way of fi nding the goats to run in the event.
“They are wild goats donated by local farmers,” Mr Conway said.
“Our footballers go out to farms and catch them, which is harder than it sounds.”
Mr Conway said anyone could purchase a goat to race in the event for $30.
“Once you’ve bought a goat, it’s yours for the day whether it wins or loses,” he said.
The fundraising festivities will also feature Cow Pad Lotto, which has $2000 in prize money up for grabs.
