Funding boost for the hospital

Swan Hill District Health has received a huge financial injection that will be used to improve services to acute and subacute patients.

Member for Northern Victoria Steve Herbert announced the 2.6 million windfall earlier this week as part of a $200 million state fund – the largest of its kind in Victorian history.

The funds designated for Swan Hill will enable Level 1 of the former residential facility to be refurbished into subacute services, allowing patients to have a more seamless transition through emergency and acute departments.

SHDH chief executive officer Ted Rayment said the hospital was pleased their submission to establish a Level 2 facility was successful.

“The new facility will be located on the first floor above our Primary Care Medical Centre on High Street which was previously the Aged Care building.

“We will be able to transfer patients from the acute setting at the time they need subacute care and maximise their chance of restorative functionality,” Mr Rayment said.

“We will be able to admit patients who present to Emergency that are suitable for subacute care without having to admit them to the acute ward.”
