Support for dog leash laws

Mystery surrounds the intent of banners which have been placed outside Swan Hill Rural City Council offices.

The banners come as SHRCC reviews its policy on responsible pet ownership.

The overall review of community local law will explore regulations around animal ownership, alcohol consumption in public places, signs and fencing, vegetation and road works.

However, the issue of pet ownership has attracted a lot of attention in recent weeks.

SHRCC chief executive officer John McLinden said he believed the banners were placed in support of proposed changes which would require all dogs to be leashed in public places.

“I’d be keen for readers to understand this is not a council prank in support of their own position, but rather a reverse protest from a community member who wishes to encourage responsible pet ownership,” he said.
