The Swan Hill and district community is celebrating this week after their calls for a hospice facility within Swan Hill were answered.
Late last week the State Government announced it would fund a new hospice and subacute ward as part of a $2.6 million upgrade to Swan Hill District Health.
For the last two years the Swan Hill District Hospice Committee has been pushing for a hospice facility within Swan Hill, and with the help of the local community, has raised $300,000.
President of the Swan Hill District Hospice committee Michael Crowe said the relentless efforts of the committee and overwhelming support of the community had resulted in a positive outcome.
“This is the best news Swan Hill has received in a long time,” Mr Crowe said.
“It will make such a big difference and is just fantastic.”
Mr Crowe said he was overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community who dug deep into their pockets for the cause.
“The passion was there,” Mr Crowe said, noting those that donated or hosted events were well aware of the benefits.
“We had such a huge amount of support from the community and they did such an amazing job to raise that much money.”
