Brodi has a bright future ahead

LILY HOFFMANN

FOR someone so young, Brodi Purtill is wise beyond her years.

At just 17, Brodi has already found her feet, a course for her future and a passion to feed her soul.

Brodi is a dedicated member of the community and has been rewarded for her hard work with a nomination in this year’s Novo Youth Awards after recently receiving the Melbourne Theatre Company’s Indigenous Scholarship.

“I’m on the youth council, which is the Novo Youth Council and I’ve been nominated for young performer of the year,” Brodi said.

“It is just for people who have been seen in the community helping people, people who have volunteered their time to perform, and encourage other community members to perform and have a go in the arts.”

Brodi meets with two different youth councils every Tuesday at Youth Inc, tasked with ensuring youth’ voices are heard by the Swan Hill Rural City Council, and that local youth have events and activities available to them year-round.

It is within the arts field that Brodi has immersed herself, with dreams of taking her love for theatre and turning it into a career.

“I want to go to university straight away and do teaching and become a drama teacher, wherever that takes me,” Brodi said.
